With the festive season around the corner, it’s time to start learning how to play your favourite Christmas songs on the piano. Below we’ve listed a few simple festive songs which are our personal favourites that you can include in your repertoire.

1. We Wish You A Merry Christmas

This is one of the easiest Christmas songs you can learn to play on the piano. It’s fairly easy to learn, as it contains a verse and a chorus that are repeated throughout. It’s also a fun song that encourages sing-alongs.

2. It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

This song is quite open and rubato and can be played in several different ways by simply changing up to tempo to be a swing or up-tempo version.

3. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

This glorious melody was captured in the 1940’s by Frank Sinatra. By playing this simple piano song, you will become accustomed to playing 7th, octaves and other intervals that require you to jump and stretch your fingers.

4. Deck The Halls

“Deck The Halls” is an easily memorized piano song that starts off with a catchy hook which is repeated throughout. It’s another famous song that encourages everyone to join in and sing.

5. Jingle Bells

The most famous Christmas song of all times is definitely “Jingle Bells.” In order to ensure that your rhythm stays in-time, try thinking about the actual jingle bells!

6. Silent Night

This classic is so simple that it only uses that white keys on the piano. It’s great for learning how to use a foot pedal since it’s a legato song. You can practice picking up the foot on the long phrases.

7. Away in a Manger

If you’re looking for an easy song to play on the piano, you should consider “Away in a Manger” since it only uses 8 notes. This song can be played only using the right hand (however, if you’re looking to challenge yourself, use only your left hand).
